Slow fashion and a love for linen (ENG)

The global textile industry sells 80 billion new garments annually and is the second-largest polluter in the world. In the developed world, we buy 60 percent more clothes than ten years ago, and on average, we wear a single garment only six to seven times. Fast fashion tempts us with ever-fresh offerings and low prices, even though it sacrifices product quality and has a significant negative impact on the environment. Its opposite is slow or sustainable fashion. Sustainable fashion is based on values such as respect for nature, protection of natural resources, and ensuring basic human rights. At the same time, it encourages buying fewer, higher-quality, and timeless clothes. A capsule collection or capsule wardrobe is one of the solutions in contrast to fast fashion. A capsule collection consists of a few key pieces of clothing that are not seasonally determined by fashion, so they can be worn for a longer period.

POČASNA MODA IN LJUBEZEN DO LANU

My aim is to show that it is possible to design and produce clothing in a way that does not exploit the environment, natural resources, or basic human rights.

LUCI garments have a minimalist look, are multifunctional, and can be worn and combined in multiple ways. In design and creation, selected principles and methods of sustainable design are used, as well as exclusively natural, certified materials (linen, organic cotton) that are suitable for recycling and do not contain additives such as elastane, or mixtures of natural fibers with synthetics. The selected materials ensure basic ecological standards and well-being when worn. Each collection is designed so that the clothes can be recycled at the end of their life cycle. Basic minimalist garments remain in fashion for several years and can be worn for multiple seasons. By purchasing fewer quality clothes with a timeless look, we reduce the negative impact on the environment.

Why #linenlove?

Linen fibers are environmentally friendly, as they require relatively little water and energy for processing and use significantly fewer pesticides and artificial fertilizers than cotton. In addition, they are 100% biodegradable. Linen fabrics are durable, do not cause allergic reactions, and are stain-resistant. With use and washing, they become not only softer but also more beautiful. Linen warms in winter, cools in summer, and wicks away excess heat from the skin. Linen is inherently sustainable and represents an excellent combination of elegance and functionality.

Thank you for your attention! Lucie.
